Life is hard.
According to The World Health Organization COVID-19 has killed more than 6 million people of which 1 million are in the United States. The lasting health impacts of COVID-19 on those of us that got ill are yet to be determined. But I know personally it hasn’t been easy.
The economic and social impact of this disease has crippled economies and has set back academic achievement of many underrepresented groups. Life has changed significantly since the pandemic and things are hard.
Now, we have the invasion of Ukraine. We watch the news wondering how this all could be possible in the current century we live in. And as we examine what has happened in our world, we understand that history repeats itself and we shouldn’t be surprised why hatred and tyranny has become the new normal more recently.
I know the past weeks have filled me with discouragement, and yet the Ukrainian people are telling themselves they are going to make it. And as we watch their stories on the news that are filled with hope, grit, and determination, I am in awe of the courageousness of their people.
We are watching this quote lived-out right before our eyes.
Let’s consider love as the new normal and spread that everywhere we can.
